LAKE LIGHT - The Lake District Photography of Dave Butcher

LAKE LIGHT - The Lake District Photography of Dave Butcher

Price: £15

Lake Light, my third book is now available(published in March 2010). It is a similar format to Peak Light with 80 pages. It has 89 images arranged in three sections and a map showing the location of each photograph. Detailed captions to each picture give more details about the locations to make it easy for you to find them.

The sections are arranged geographically starting in the North (Skiddaw, Derwent, Keswick, Buttermere), then West (Scafell Pike, Ennerdale, Wasdale, Eskdale, Langdales, Ravenglass) ending in the South and East (Helvellyn, Coniston, Windermere, Kendal, Grasmere, High Street).

Renowned landscape photographer Joe Cornish has written a foreword.

There is also an article on taking black and white landscape photographs with digital cameras, since I know from the many courses that I have run that this is of interest to many of you.

There are 2 technical data pages at the back for those that want more detail on each photograph.

All copies ordered here are signed by the author. It is £15, including post and packing (1st class postage in the UK and normal air mail outside UK) and will be despatched as soon as it is available (5th March). If ordering through a bookshop the ISBN is 978-0-9555627-1-6.

Price: £14.99

My second book was published in May 2007. All copies ordered here are signed by the author. It can be ordered for £14.99, including post and packing (1st class postage in the UK and normal air mail outside UK).

Peak Light has a similar format to High Light but with 25% more pages (80 pages in total). It has 90 of my photographs roughly arranged geographically to guide you from south to north through the Peak District National Park. A map is included and each plate number is marked on it so that, with the information provided in the captions, you can easily retrace my steps if you want to visit the locations yourself.

You will be guided to some of the best and most picturesque locations in the Peak District National Park.

I have written an introduction to the book and the Peak District and a section covering my photography. There are 2 technical data pages at the back for those that want more detail on each photograph.

Peak Light was printed by the same company that did both of the High Light print runs to ensure high picture and paper quality.

I hope you like it!

HIGH LIGHT - The Landscape Photography of Dave Butcher

Price: £12.99

My first book is still available. It was reprinted by the same printer that did the original print run to make sure the same high quality printing was achieved. All copies ordered here are signed by the author. The cost is £12.99, including post and packing (1st class postage in the UK and normal air mail outside UK).

It has 64 pages with 60 of my photographs in 4 galleries: Mountain Light (shots from the Alps and Colorado), England and Wales, Scotland, Skiing and Snowshoeing (including ski mountaineering and piste skiing)

I have also written 3 sections covering the basics of: Hill and mountain landscape photography, equipment needed for this type of photography, darkroom techniques that I use, including the 'Ilford way' for split grade printing

The first 2 sections are written in general terms and are relevant to all photographers, not just those taking black and white photographs. They are just as appropriate for photographers taking colour and digital pictures as to black white photographers.

The short darkroom section is specific to black and white printing in the darkroom. It describes basic techniques, as well as those like split grade printing, in simple terms such that they can all be used routinely.

Illustrated Articles

Dave Butcher is a black and white photographer who writes books as well as illustrated articles for magazines and other publications, such as Black and White Photography magazine.

My training for this was gained during my time at Ilford Photo where I set up, ran and edited the Ilford company technical newsletter. This was published for 5 or so years and I wrote over 120 articles on a wide assortment of topics. I also wrote technical documents and briefings for use by customers, many of which are still available through the Ilford Photo web site today.

There are also some technical articles that I have written on this web site. Click here or on technical notes in the 'extra info' box on the home page to see more.

If you are looking for a technical article or a travel feature, for example, then please give me a call to discuss your needs.
