The winners will go to some of the best areas in the Lake District National Park for photography visiting locations from Lake Light, the new book from Dave Butcher packed full of photographs of the Lake District. A special day like this with Dave Butcher would usually cost £500. The course is suitable for both digital & film users of any standard. The course includes photography of big landscape views, lakes, trees, waterfalls, rivers and rocks, weather permitting. The aim is to inspire you to make more artistic landscapes. The basics of composition and exposure, as they apply to black and white, are always covered. You will also learn some of the important basics for using digital cameras. Winner’s pictures from the course will be published in B&W Photo later in the year. The competition is run jointly with Harman Technology so the winners can choose their prizes from the Ilford, Kentmere and Harman Photo product ranges. NotesAccommodation is not included but help in finding local accommodation will be offered Lunch is usually in a convenient pub, the cost of which is not included. In the event of a winner being unable to attend the course another name will be drawn at random as a replacement. You need enough fitness to walk 3 miles or so in a day on rough paths and have comfortable shoes or walking boots with warm clothes and waterproofs, although we obviously hope for blue sky with white fluffy clouds! Other than that this a photography course so we will spend as much time as possible taking pictures. Dave Butcher courses programmeDave Butcher runs an extensive programme of courses in landscape photography in black and white, available from March to October, with 6 people and 2 tutors on each course. They are practical courses that concentrate on inspiring individuals to see and capture pictures in black and white. The basics of composition, depth of field and exposure as they apply to black and white, where to point the meter and how to take a meter reading for both film and digital, are always covered. There are also darkroom printing courses available from January to December; Dave Butcher worked for Ilford for 21 years, including running the photographic printing department, and is an Ilford Master printer and will help you make black and white prints more easily and faster without filling the waste bin! The use of a tripod will give you extra possibilities for photographs; slow shutter speed shots that cannot be hand-held are often very effective with water and in low light situations. The multiple exposure techniques to compensate for the deficiencies of digital camera sensors in situations of wide brightness ranges really needs the use of a tripod. |
