About Dave Butcher

Dave Butcher has over thirty years experience in photography and the photo industry. As an Ilford Master Printer, and probably the last active professional darkroom printer trained by Ilford Photo, he combines his creative talent with an in-depth technical knowledge of the processes involved in black and white developing and printing to produce distinctively unique prints using traditional darkroom methods and materials.

Working exclusively in black and white to produce stunning landscape photographs and striking city shots his work is widely published in books and magazines. He is the author of 4 books. His images can be seen in numerous advertising and PR projects, and Dave's original black and white pictures are popular with interior designers, businesses and homeowners alike. His prints are also displayed in many private collections worldwide.

Books

Dave has written four books:

City Light - Cities of the World ... and Buxton (2013)

Lake Light - The Lake District Photography of Dave Butcher (2010)

Peak Light - The Peak District Photography of Dave Butcher (2007)

High Light - The Landscape Photography of Dave Butcher (2005, reprinted 2007)

Copies of all 4 books are widely available. Orders may be placed through this web site. They are also available through good bookshops and Amazon UK. We have less than 100 copies of High Light (print run 2000) and Lake Light (print run 1500) and under 150 copies of Peak Light (print run 2500) so we expect to sell out by the end of this year for the latter 2 and next year for High Light.

Darkroom Dave

I have written quite a bit of technical advice and to better organise all of it in one place it has been moved to a new website, www.darkroomdave.com. It also gave me the prompt, and the space, to do a few videos of my basic techniques. I hope you find it useful.
